Preparing for Day 3 rd World Autism Awareness, 2010

(Excerpted from the website TGD-Padres, Argentina ):

General Assembly 12/18/1907 UN adopted a resolution on declaring Day April 2 as World Autism Awareness , with the aim of warning about this disease, whose incidence has increased worldwide. The text, sponsored by Qatar and backed by 50 other countries, was adopted by consensus at the Human Rights Committee General Assembly.

The document raises a concern about the high incidence of autism in children around the world.

Also remember that early diagnosis, as well as research and appropriate intervention "is vital for development growth."

The resolution highlights also that the Convention on the Rights of the Child stipulates the right of disabled children to enjoy a full and decent life.

The resolution resolves that:

1. Decides to designate 2 April World Autism Awareness, which is observed every year from 2008;

2. Invites all States, relevant organizations of the United Nations system and other international organizations and civil society, including NGOs and the private sector to properly observe the World Day Autism Awareness to enhance public awareness of autism;

3. Encourages Member States to take measures to raise awareness throughout society, even at family level, regarding the situation of children with autism;

4. Requests the Secretary General to bring this resolution to the attention of all Member States and organizations of the United Nations system

PDD-Padres this year is preparing for an event on April 1, since April 2 matches in our country, with the commemoration of Veterans Day and Memorial in Falklands War. In addition to also match Friday. I copy the mail that I received a PDD-parents on this date:

"We are preparing for the day April 1 in the square some gesture of the two conferences. I invite you to agendas that day.
organizing
and calling the respective approvals.
The reason the first is that the day 2 coincides with a) b Good Friday) holiday c) long weekend d) Day of the Falklands.
Therefore we prefer to do it on 1 April
I ask what agenda that day, and will disseminate this information so that everyone can participate. When we have accurate data send complete information.

Moreover through Facebook I received this data and information for those who want to join this cause on that day:

"Light Blue"

In night of April 1, at 21.00 am, the Empire State Building lights up in blue to raise awareness about autism and to commemorate World Autism Awareness Friday, April 2. We are aiming to the world is lit in blue: City by city, town by town - for action to raise awareness about autism in our communities.

Other things you can do to Blue Light It Up

• During April, speak to people about autism, if they ask.
(In the photos there is some information that might help)

• Change your profile picture on Facebook of Blue Light It Up logo and label at least 10 of your friends.

• Post on your blog about how this "blue light" can serve to raise awareness of autism.

• Add It Up Light blue logo to your email signature, and write your e-mails in blue!

• On April 2 blue clothing and ask your co-workers, studies and friends who wear blue too.

Take pictures and add them to our gallery.

not want to forget, for all blogger this wonderful family and also for those fathers and mothers of children with autism who have no blog, but if you really wanted to participate, the initiative of Maite, the blog "to the moon and back" to this day. Draw from your wonderful blog what it is the same:

... "I suggest two things:
- Work for the" Autism Special 3 "for the literary magazine figuratively. Testimonies, articles, stories, poems, testimonies ... that will compose a reality of the autism puzzle. This year we focused on the theme Inclusion but you can actually write about what you like.
In Images can consult and download the 2 issues. The texts can add up the available at the Journal, Figuratively. Right there you can publish or send them to your Anabel (The sound of the grass to grow) to the following address: fiestalemana@googlemail.com Deadline: April 15, 2010 .

- Collaborate on a video. Like last year our chic @ s will be the stars, we show that our children are just that, chic @ s, and that our families are much more than autism. To do this I need to send me a picture, with many of you have contacted through facebook but there are many more with whom I have not yet contacted. And there will be spontaneous not know who also want to join. ! Of course you !!!!!!

Send photo with name of child: hastalalunaidayvuelta@gmail.com
Deadline: March 21, 2010.
I look forward to any proposals be gathering there to this day, and I encourage even propongáis who help new ... "

So there is no reason to stay out of this day ... !
Whether or not relatives of a child with autism, you can do much to this day serves to raise awareness in society about this disorder that affects each passing year more and more children.
highlight and prioritize the fact that early detection and intervention are essential for successful development and obtain enormous progress in these children. That
social inclusion and integration at the level of school education is paramount. For that reason, we your parents, we live to fight for their rights are fulfilled, for these things taking place in their lives and ours, but due to ignorance and lack of subject matter and the lack of dedication and willingness
by many, ensuring that these rights compliance becomes increasingly difficult. This day does not pass in vain and instead be of much use ... For my son, for you and for each of the children who struggle every day to give battle to this condition, his disability.

Happy Birthday Nana!

Today is my Nana's birthday! I hope she has a good day! I LOVE her tons. But I know she has to work. My Dad and I are going to surprise her with some cupcakes later. :)

I wish my Nana had the day off. That way we could spoil her the way she spoils all of us! But she has to work. We still have lots of surprises for her! I can't wait to go see her. Later this week, we're going to make her dinner too!

Happy Birthday Nana! :) C

Absinthe Fact and Fiction

Absinthe is a spirit. It's very strong, and very green. But is it something more?

I used to think so, until I came across this paper taking a skeptical look at the history and science of the drink, Padosch et al's Absinthism a fictitious 19th century syndrome with present impact

Absinthe is prepared by crushing and dissolving the herb wormwood in unflavoured neutral alcohol and then distilling the result; other herbs and spices are added later for taste and colour.

It became extremely popular in the late 19th century, especially in France, but it developed a reputation as a dangerous and hallucinogenic drug. Overuse was said to cause insanity, "absinthism", much worse than regular alcoholism. Eventually, absinthe was banned in the USA and most but not all European countries.

Much of the concern over absinthe came from animal experiments. Wormwood oil was found to cause hyperactivity and seizures in cats and rodents, whereas normal alcohol just made them drunk. But, Padosch et al explain, the relevance of these experiments to drinkers is unclear, because they involved high doses of pure wormwood extract, whereas absinthe is much more dilute. The fact that authors at the time used the word absinthe to refer to both the drink and the pure extract added to the confusion.

It's now known that wormwood, or at least some varieties of it, contains thujone, which can indeed cause seizures, and death, due to being a GABA antagonist. Until a few years ago it was thought that old-style absinthe might have contained up to 260 mg of thujone per litre, a substantial dose.

But that was based on the assumption that all of the thujone in the wormwood ended up in the drink prepared from it. Chemical analysis of actual absinthe has repeatedly found that it contains no more than about 6 mg/L thujone. The alcohol in absinthe would kill you long before you drank enough to get any other effects. As the saying goes, "the dose makes the poison", something that is easily forgotten.

As Padosch et al point out, it's possible that there are other undiscovered psychoactive compounds in absinthe, or that long-term exposure to low doses of thujone does cause "absinthism". But there is no evidence for that so far. Rather, they say, absinthism was just chronic alcoholism, and absinthe was no more or less dangerous than any other spirit.

I'm not sure why, but drinks seem to attract more than their fair share of urban myths. Amongst many others I've heard that the flakes of gold in Goldschläger cause cuts which let alcohol into your blood faster; Aftershock crystallizes in your stomach, so if you drink water the morning afterwards, you get drunk again; and that the little worm you get at the bottom of some tequilas apparently contains especially concentrated alcohol, or hallucinogens, or even cocaine maybe.

Slightly more serious is the theory that drinking different kinds of drinks instead of sticking to just one gets you drunk faster, or gives you a worse hangover, or something, especially if you do it in a certain order. Almost everyone I know believes this, although in my drinking experience it's not true, but I'm not sure that it's completely bogus, as I have heard somewhat plausible explanations i.e. drinking spirits alongside beer leads to a concentration of alcohol in your stomach that's optimal for absorption into the bloodstream... maybe.
